Proof launches agent identity layer with x401, letting AI agents prove who authorized them

Robert Scoble interviews Daniel Buchner, director of Proof, on building an "identity layer" for AI agents.
- Proof gives agents verifiable legal identity: signatures, notarizations, account openings and payments are bound to a biometrics- and IAL2-verified human, with cryptographic records that can't be repudiated.
- The new x401 protocol lets sites ask an AI agent for ID the same way you'd ask a person, gating actions like buying insurance, applying for loans, or opening accounts.
- Privacy by design: identity requests disclose only the attributes needed, approved per-attribute by the user.
As agents start transacting on people's behalf, tracing every action back to its human authorizer is emerging as core trust infrastructure.
