New theory shows prover-conjecturer self-play can grow proved theorems exponentially
StanfordAILab · x · 2026-11-09
A NeurIPS 2026 paper (arXiv:2606.01861) by Thomas Chen and Zhiyuan Li formalizes self-play theorem proving: theorems form a graph, and if it's well-connected, a prover-conjecturer system using reversible random walks grows the set of proved theorems exponentially. It also proposes a diversity measure and an improved conjecturing algorithm to counter artificially complex generated theorems.
