If frontier labs keep top models internal, banning or nationalizing may be the only answers
andersonbcdefg · x · 2026-11-09
Developer andersonbcdefg argues that while he dislikes the patronage trend of picking winners and losers for frontier model access, labs can always choose to grant access to no one and keep models internal — just as disempowering for everyone else. He pushes further: absent a compelling democratized alternative, the only reasonable reactions to fully closed frontier models would be to ban or nationalize them, both of which seem extreme — yet forcing companies to release models is also "wacky." A sharp opinion thread on frontier AI governance.
