Erik Brynjolfsson announces that "A Research Agenda for the Economics of Transformative AI," co-authored with Anton Korinek and Ajay Agrawal, is now in print in Communications of the ACM.
The piece argues TAI is advancing faster than economic institutions can adapt, laying out a research agenda spanning economic growth and innovation, income distribution, decision-making, and safety. It cites Metaculus predictions that median forecasts for human-level "general AI systems" moved to 2026 (median 2062 in 2020), plus Dario Amodei's expectation of AI surpassing humans on most tasks around 2026 and Demis Hassabis's AGI estimate around 2030. It also warns current productivity measures miss AI's full impact and calls for interdisciplinary collaboration to maximize well-being and prevent worsening inequality.
