Dev Built a Claude Code Limit Widget With Claude Code Writing 130 of 160 Commits
Fade97 · reddit · 2026-11-08
A developer kept hitting Claude Code's 5-hour and weekly limits mid-task, so over 2.5 weeks he built Meterkat with Claude Code: an Android home-screen widget showing limits and reset times for Claude Code, Codex and Antigravity.
Key details:
- An open-source PC companion (Windows/Linux) reads usage from the CLI's headless /usage JSON output — no scraping, no tokens, no quota consumed
- Updates relay via Cloudflare Workers with end-to-end encryption; logins are never exposed
- Claude Code wrote the Kotlin app, Node companion and relay, generated shared crypto test vectors, produced a threat model and security review, and drove an Android emulator with screenshots to verify the UI
- The hardest part: fitting the widget/notification at every size and font scale, taking dozens of screenshot-feedback rounds
Free, no account or ads; in closed beta on Google Play, needing 12 testers for 14 days before publication.
