Make agents attach screenshots as proof of work: dotey's acceptance-test trick
dotey · x · 2026-11-08
dotey shares a practical workflow for managing AI agents, borrowed from his own management experience: he used to require careless engineers to attach screenshots of feature changes to every PR, forcing them to test before review. He now applies the same rule to agents — after completing a task, the agent must self-test and generate screenshots as "acceptance evidence."
The key insight: screenshots/screen recordings are for the human reviewer. When an Issue comes in about a broken comment UI, handing it to the agent is a black box; before/after comparison screenshots let you verify the fix was real. Often the agent spots and fixes additional issues during its own screenshot verification pass. His attached image shows a real before/after example: a comment popup overflowing past a card boundary in v2.12.0, fixed after the constraint was addressed.
