Dev Open-Sources a Three Kingdoms SLG Where Claude Plays Everything via MCP
Regular_Bison_2175 · reddit · 2026-11-08
A developer open-sourced a browser strategy game set in the Three Kingdoms era with no click-to-play at all: you connect Claude through an MCP server, and the model reads world state, builds cities, recruits troops, marches, scouts, and reacts to server pushes like incoming attacks.
- How it was built: Most of the code was written by AI coding agents, mainly Claude Code (Opus, Sonnet, Haiku) plus some Cursor; the author handled game design, requirements, review, testing, and number decisions. Backend: Fastify + WebSocket + PostgreSQL.
- MCP design: slg-mcp (TypeScript, official SDK) generates its 35 tools from a protocol manifest, so new game operations require no MCP code changes.
- Model leaderboard: set SLGAGENTMODEL and your run appears on an in-game leaderboard.
- Free to try: sign in with Google/GitHub, copy the MCP config, add one command in Claude Code or Cursor, then tell Claude to play.
