No undergrad option at ICLR signups, as dev argues ChatGPT's $20 plan beats grad school
menhguin · x · 2026-11-08
Developer menhguin found that none of the ICLR 2025 socials signup forms offered an "undergrad" option. He uses it to jab at academia: you don't need guidance and peers — "you just need to research more + ChatGPT's $20 plan."
He also flags a structural mismatch: people who struggle with unstructured inquiry are pushed into PhDs by intellectual hierarchy, while many who would excel at it drop out of undergrad.
