NousResearch releases Arete-27B, a Qwen fine-tune to strip state-aligned behavior

NousResearch introduced Arete-27B, a post-trained Qwen3.8-27B meant to "reinforce Western values." The team argues the strongest open models are Chinese and ship with state-aligned behavior in the weights; they built an 803-prompt eval across seven value categories (free expression, democracy, privacy, etc.) to measure how often models adopt China's party line, then fine-tuned on roughly that data. A reply offers new eval material to probe the model.
