26.7M games, 2.26B move targets: corpus and curriculum for a chess transformer
andreisavu · x · 2026-11-08
Parts 8-9 of the chess transformer thread cover data and curriculum:
- Corpus: 26.7 million unique games with 2.26 billion eligible next-move targets per pass; most games come from strong human play, a smaller share from engines.
- Curriculum: ordinary move coverage and auxiliary exposure are tracked separately; auxiliary sampling ramps up while repeated exposure is capped, controlling each task's share of training.
