OpenAI Acquires Pierre to Give Codex Agents Dedicated Code Storage
shashib · x · 2026-11-08
OpenAI agreed on November 4 to acquire Pierre Computer Company, the startup behind Code Storage and the open-source Trees and Diffs libraries that power file navigation and change review inside Codex. Terms undisclosed; the deal awaits regulatory approval.
The timing is telling: two days earlier, OpenAI revealed agent traffic pushed its Git backend below 90% reliability, forcing the in-house Pando source-control backend — built in Rust by Codex agent teams over 10 weeks — to replace it. Quarterly commits to OpenAI's monorepo grew over 2,400% from Q1 2024 to end of 2026.
Pierre's Code Storage supports repos up to 32TB with 30+ concurrent writes; its features will be folded into Codex while existing customers keep access.
