Testing ICE Constrained Decoding: Enforce Constraints at Generation, Not After
manvigupta03 · reddit · 2026-11-08
The author shares lessons from testing Hindsight and its ICE runtime against brute-force approaches. ICE's core idea: constrain the model during generation via grammar-guided decoding (grammar engine → prefix trie → token compatibility → logit masking) rather than cleaning up with a downstream parser. The real engineering challenge is proving the constraint engine itself introduces no new errors. Hindsight adds an engineering-memory layer with Retain/Recall/Reflect.
