Karpathy one-shots TristanTube with Claude Code, curating 47K nerdy videos
adnan_hashmi · x · 2026-11-08
Karpathy turned Tristan Hume's updated YouTube tier list into TristanTube — 47K super-nerdy videos with a TV mode — one-shotted with Claude Code in 3 minutes. It follows his HackerTube weekend hack: annoyed by YouTube's recommendations, he used Claude to filter 43M HN comments over 20 years down to 6,454 consistently recommended videos (2 hours with Opus 5.5). No logins needed (local browser session), thumbnails are mid-video frames instead of A/B-optimized covers, and the underlying comment-analysis data is published as a zip so anyone can point their Claude at it and build their own version. Hume's blog details long-running science/engineering channels like Applied Science and Clickspring.
