Gymnastics meme: growing up on Gwern vs. a conservative family
akbirthko · x · 2026-11-07
A poster uses a gymnastics meme — a neat balance beam above versus chaotic acrobatics and a fiery crash below — to self-deprecate their "developmental delay," describing how reading Gwern and LessWrong as a teen in a very conservative Indian family created an "impedance mismatch": hyperrational individualist gymnastics against parents who couldn't conceptualize a child as a separate individual. A relatable culture meme for the rationalist/AI community.
