Codex CLI users report permission system regression: nothing works without full access
Oparis · reddit · 2026-11-07
A Linux user reports that Codex CLI's permission system has regressed badly: in "approve for me" mode, even a simple /init with a docker compose setup and git init fails — docker access requires escalation and .git is read-only, so nothing gets done without granting full permissions.
Additional issues: the /approve flow doesn't record denied accesses, forcing repeated confirmations, and the question interaction is broken (typing +/- to answer questions you can't even parse). The user says it worked well months ago and is now essentially unusable without full permissions.
