DeepMind's AGI economics program: millions of agents may transform economy with just 4-5% GDP growth

Google DeepMind's @alexolegimas, with Andrew Koh and Shane Legg, launches "The Economics of Intelligence," the first project of a research program on how AGI transforms the economy — defining economic capability thresholds like minimal AGI and tracking market structure, employment, and wages across regimes.
Counterintuitive thesis: millions of AI agents could transform the economy while GDP growth stays at 4-5%, because automation makes output so cheap that the boom barely shows up in GDP. Analogy: agriculture fell from 40% to 2% of the economy as it got automated, even as output exploded. "We could see incredible flourishing and cheap output we're all happy with — without huge growth numbers."
