Researcher Alleges Reviewers Use LLMs to Write Batch Rejections and Eliminate Rival Papers
examachine · x · 2026-11-07
Developer examachine claims on X to have personally seen conference reviewers using LLMs to mass-produce "standardized rejection reviews" — deciding to reject first, then having the model fabricate justifications rather than writing them by hand.
A more serious allegation follows: a group of reviewers is suspected of weaponizing LLM-written reviews to systematically eliminate papers that aren't theirs, turning automated review into a tool for sidelining competitors.
If accurate, this points to an integrity crisis in peer review during the LLM era — the templated text of reviews may itself become the tell for LLM involvement.
