3/4 of Designers Now Work in Coding Agents, So Proto Is Building a Designer's IDE
antimatter15 · x · 2026-11-07
Designer Maayan Albert cited a survey finding that about 3/4 of designers now work in coding agents rather than design tools, and is building Proto, a designer's IDE positioned as "Claude Code or Cursor, but with all the design features you wish they'd ship" — including Midjourney-style rapid ideation.
Proto has opened limited early-access signups, with backing from Soleio and design leaders including Vercel's John Phamous, GitHub's Adrian Mato, Atlassian's David Hoang, and OpenAI's Ari Weinstein.
