Dev ships a database-less MCP server that answers from your backup ZIP

The developer of OpenTV, a free TV/film tracker, shipped an MCP server that plugs your watch history into Claude or ChatGPT — query progress, history, ratings, or ask it to pick a film; write actions (mark watched, rate, add to list) require confirmation. Stack: Streamable HTTP + OAuth 2.1, 13 tools, runs on a Cloudflare Worker.

The interesting part is the architecture: the app is offline-first, the phone's SQLite DB is the only source of truth, and the server deliberately has no watch-history table. Queries read the user's own backup ZIP from R2, parse it in memory, then layer on incremental changes from the sync relay; turn backup off and the server has nothing to read. Writes flow through the sync relay and land on the phone at next sync.

The author calls this 'backup-as-database' approach trade-off-laden and invites discussion. Requires OpenTV Plus with backup; works on free Claude/ChatGPT plans.
