Huawei Ascend 960 roadmap pulled forward up to 3 quarters; analyst says scale-up domain beats efficiency
teortaxesTex · x · 2026-11-07
teortaxesTex argues the focus on power efficiency is misguided: Huawei's Ascend 950/960 offer vastly larger scale-up domains, giving qualitatively higher utility than FLOPS-matched H100 equivalents. Huawei has accelerated the program — 960DT deliveries moved to Q1 2027 (from Q4), 960PR to Q3 2027 with 2x FP4 perf (8 PFLOPS, 192GB HBM; 960DT: 4 PFLOPS, 288GB, 9.6TB/s), versus NVIDIA B200/B300 already shipping. He expects Epoch's datacenter compute models for 2028 could be 3-4x off on effective utility.
