Morgan Stanley: high-AI industries drove 2.0pp of the 2.4% productivity gain
soumitrashukla9 · x · 2026-11-07
- Morgan Stanley data: productivity (output per employee) is rising faster in high-AI-exposure industries than in median- or low-AI ones.
- Over the past four quarters, high-AI industries contributed 2.0pp of the economy-wide 2.4% productivity gain; mid- and low-AI industries together added just 0.4pp.
- The trend is accelerating: a year earlier high-AI industries contributed 1.4pp (mid/low: 1.0pp). The acceleration began in late 2024, and by 2Q 2025 the four-quarter contribution was noticeably above trend and has stayed there.
- An early empirical signal that AI is showing up in macro productivity data.
