MIRI's Aaron Scher: airgapping debate is over, frontier models now get full internet access
wfithian · x · 2026-11-07
MIRI researcher Aaron Scher, on TVW's The Impact, notes that 20 years ago the debate was whether powerful machine intelligence could be "kept in a box" with airgapped computers — yet by 2026, giving frontier models widespread, direct internet access is standard practice. The interview also covered whether AI extinction threats distract from other AI harms (he says no) and whether giving up ASI means giving up all AI benefits (also no).
