Open toolkit of 19 AI models for rare-earth-free magnet discovery, from MatterGen to DFT pipelines
BenBlaiszik · x · 2026-11-07
The mmoderwell team, searching for a rare-earth-free permanent magnet to rival Nd2Fe14B, has published their full computational stack on the community platform Ouro — point your agent at the toolkit to use it. It hosts 19 models (MatterGen, CrystaLLM, Crystalite, etc.), hull stability checks against Materials Project + Alexandria + GNoME, multiple MLIPs, and a full DFT toolset including magnet-specific calculations like MAE and Curie temperature. Most ML steps are free; DFT bills at $0.036/min. Over two years they've discovered countless novel compounds and run thousands of calculations with it.
