Loudoun County's data center alley: 3% of land, 40% of local tax revenue
aronchick · x · 2026-11-07
Buddy Rizer, economic development chief of Loudoun County, Virginia, says the local "data center alley" has grown to 55 million sq ft across 230+ buildings, generating about $1.2 billion a year in local tax revenue—roughly 40% of all county taxes—on just 3% of the land. He notes the original plan was only to leverage the existing fiber loop, internet exchange, reclaimed water line, and already-built buildings. The poster applauds firms like SpaceX, Google, and Microsoft returning revenue via property and income taxes.
