BoopFace: MIT-licensed SVG robot avatar Web Component with an ESP32/STM32 embedded engine
Additional-Ad5527 · reddit · 2026-11-07
The author released BoopFace, an MIT-licensed native Web Component (<boop-face>) in vanilla JS and SVG with zero runtime dependencies, giving AI bots expressive avatars. Highlights:
- 18 expressions callable from agent code (avatar.startWaiting(), avatar.play('wary')), plus press-and-hold squeeze and a draggable spring antenna that gets angry
- 188 pure-SVG 3D-style skins with pointer-following light, no bitmaps; lite build 45 KB, under 200 KB with all skins
- BoopFace Embedded v0.1.0: a lightweight C++11 expression engine matching the web version's expressions/timing, supporting ESP32, ESP32-S3, STM32 and Raspberry Pi Pico with 28 board/display configs passing compilation, plus an online simulator for previewing 32 screens and exporting settings
Available on npm and GitHub; animated skins are next.
