Dev builds a sailing sim with Claude Code and pits frontier models against each other
abhi3188 · reddit · 2026-11-07
A developer used Claude Code to write a sailing simulator — boat physics, wind, 3D water and coastline, plus the harness letting AI models sail it — then raced frontier models in it.
How it works:
- Every 5 seconds each model gets the full world state (23 raw numbers: heading, speed, wind, next mark) and sets helm and sails
- No sailing tips; the sim pauses while a model thinks, so slow models aren't punished
Result: Gemini 4 Argon won, at 5x less cost than GPT-6 Astra ($0.78 vs $3.58 per run); Claude Opus 5.5 and a fun-entry Qwen3.5-9B also raced.
