Anthropic reportedly tried to poach a METR evaluator mid-project, sparking backlash
peterwildeford · x · 2026-11-07
Nathan Calvin disclosed that Anthropic made a job offer to one of METR's risk assessment staff during an evaluation project (the person declined), raising concerns about evaluator independence. Calvin argues for rules barring independent evaluators from joining the companies they assess.
Peter Wildeford goes further: governments should create genuinely independent evaluators on equal footing, as in finance — Anthropic claiming independence while poaching evaluators and redacting reports only serves itself.
