Investor Ron Baron publicly backs Elon Musk's plan to put data centers in space, arguing the US must build more chips domestically and generate more power. He estimates China has roughly 3x US power capacity, adding 300GW a year versus 20GW in the US. Baron says Musk is targeting launches in 2027-2028 to bring solar-powered data centers into orbit, which could be "significant in 2028" and "huge" a year or two later.
