Nvidia reportedly asks TSMC to plan 3D DRAM, aimed at 2028 memory price leverage
tengyanAI · x · 2026-11-06
Per The Information, Nvidia has asked TSMC to plan 3D DRAM (memory with vertically stacked cells). This won't add memory supply in 2027 — Samsung says its 2027 HBM is already sold out and SK hynix has contracted over half its 2027–28 capacity. The real impact, argues tengyanAI, is the 2028 negotiation: memory is now one of the biggest costs in an AI server, so a credible fourth supplier — even on paper — gives Nvidia pricing leverage. The risk lands on memory makers' pricing power from 2029 onward.
