Alice & Bob study: 23,000-qubit quantum computer could crack RSA-2048 bank encryption in days
ChuckDBrooks · x · 2026-11-06
French quantum firm Alice & Bob estimates that a quantum computer with 23,000 qubits could break RSA-2048 — the encryption standard protecting online banking and digital infrastructure — within about three days, with Shor's algorithm needing only 1.5 hours of compute. Classical machines face astronomical costs, but quantum factoring changes the economics entirely; the company believes such hardware could arrive by the end of the decade.
