Schmidhuber: Mind Uploads Won't Stay Human—They'll Evolve Beyond Recognition
SchmidhuberAI · x · 2026-11-06
Schmidhuber reiterates Section 20 of his paper: humans may hope to become immortal parts of expanding AI ecologies via brain scans and mind uploads into virtual realities or robots—a physically plausible idea, with fly-brain uploads perhaps already emerging in 2024. But to compete in rapidly evolving AI ecologies, uploaded minds won't resist the temptation to become superhuman and will eventually change beyond recognition. Traditional humans shouldn't expect a major role in the far future.
