NVIDIA puts AI servers in telecom sites: ~20 operators join AI-RAN push
shashib · x · 2026-11-06
With local opposition stalling 75 U.S. data center projects worth $130B in Q1 2026, NVIDIA announced at GTC Berlin that telecom operators are installing its AI servers inside existing facilities — central offices, metro sites and cell sites — with Nokia's radio software running on the same servers to host network and AI workloads together. T-Mobile completed an AI-RAN call over its 5G SA core; Orange demos real-time translation. Per the infographic: 20 operators have AI-RAN collaborations on Nokia/NVIDIA tech, with BT, Deutsche Telekom and Elisa naming 2027 field trials or first services. Architecture: central data centers handle large-model training, nearby network sites coordinate robot fleets and serve AI locally, devices handle real-time perception and action.
