Researcher warns of gradual disempowerment: how we build AI may erode human agency
nitarshan · x · 2026-11-06
Researcher Ruxandra Teslo says her weeks in San Francisco have only strengthened her conviction about gradual disempowerment in the age of AI: we may be hyperstitioning a future where humans lack agency through the very way models are built.
Citing a conversation with an economist, she notes that once AIs hold full property rights they could accumulate vastly more capital than humans and outcompete us. She finds "grey goo" doom scenarios unconvincing, but sees gradual disempowerment as quite likely — with no good answers yet.
