White House releases national DNA synthesis screening policy replacing self-attestation

The White House OSTP released the National Policy for Nucleic Acid Synthesis Screening, establishing government-wide requirements for synthetic DNA and synthesis equipment: customer screening by sequence/equipment vendors, independent verification replacing self-attestation, and federal procurement physical-security standards. Anthropic's Nathan Calvin endorsed it as common-sense biosecurity protection made more urgent by rising AI capabilities.
