Shenlong Wang (UIUC) visited a UT Dallas lab to give his talk "May the Force Be with Your Pixels" on physical world models, connecting visual observation with 3D dynamics, physics simulation, and generative models. He framed two cultures — data-driven implicit World Models vs model-based explicit Digital Twins — and presented his team's approach: a world simulator operating over images, doing physical scene understanding (geometry, semantics, physics), simulation of lighting/dynamics/thermal effects, and re-simulation of the input images.
