Developer ships server-side barge-in for local LLM voice assistant VoiceManager
HockeyDadNinja · reddit · 2026-11-06
Reddit user HockeyDadNinja announced server-side barge-in working in the open-source VoiceManager project (TacoTakumi/VoiceManager), a low-latency streaming STT/TTS server for adding voice to local LLMs. It uses a layered approach with Tyger and VoxLock, includes echo cancelling, and ships with a Python sample client for voice-chatting your local LLM.
Built on micro turn-taking, the goal is a full conversational system like a live phone call where the assistant can do "mm hmm" acknowledgments while being interrupted without stopping. Server-side wake word handling is planned, with a new demo coming tomorrow. The repo currently has 29 stars.
