inMusic opens the full MPC range and 22 upcoming products to modders and coders

inMusic (parent of Moog, Akai, Numark, Alesis, Denon) says many of its 22 product launches coming in January will be open to modders and developers, including MPC flagships — a sweeping strategy shift for the music gear giant, after Akai teased an 'open-source' MPC keyboard running vibe-coded mods and pledged to seed hardware to the coder community. CEO Jack O'Donnell shared the vision with CDM, with an open lab planned for NAMM.
This isn't necessarily open hardware or firmware: closer to Ableton's Extensions model, where custom code (including AI-assisted code) runs in a sandboxed environment. Commenter pixlpa welcomes hardware makers embracing modding but worries openness could become an excuse to skip great instrument design in software — if every box is just a plastic shell around the same chip, why choose one over another?
