Thinking Machines introduced Inkling 2 Small, a Mixture-of-Experts model with 594B total / 17B active parameters, image input support, and variable effort.
- Benchmarks: scores 31 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, a big jump over its predecessor, with gains in agentic coding, vision, knowledge work, and reasoning
- Training: more efficient pre-training plus a large unified RL run
- Demos: procedurally builds a full Three.js city simulator with no pre-made assets; writes a from-scratch Python PC emulator that boots a real Linux kernel in the browser
- Release plan: closed weights initially, available on Tinker (playground, fine-tuning, sampling); full weights under Apache 2.0 next week after external safety testing and red-teaming
