88% of companies tout AI in filings, only ~13% back it with numbers

A Medium analysis, "The missing AI number," exposes the gap between AI talk and evidence in corporate annual filings. After ChatGPT's launch, the share of companies mentioning generative AI jumped from 15% to 88% by fiscal 2025. Yet under a strict standard — a number plus an AI attribution plus a baseline — only about 13% of companies provide verifiable impact data, and even a looser standard captures just 22%. Most AI claims remain auditable-proof-free marketing.
