AP Exams Gutted: Biology Cut 40% of Content as Rigor Declines
garrytan · x · 2026-11-06
An Education Next piece argues AP exam rigor has collapsed over two decades largely because content was gutted: AP Biology cut 40% of its material, required Aeneid lines in AP Latin were halved, and the Spanish Lit reading list shrank from 56 works to 38. Questions also got easier — readability measures show English passages fell multiple grade levels, some now with footnotes defining basic words. Garry Tan amplified it, saying the watering-down led by education departments needs to be studied.
