Render launches Sandboxes: isolated Firecracker microVMs with persistent state for every AI agent
adityaag · x · 2026-11-05
Render introduced Sandboxes (beta), giving each AI agent its own isolated compute, persistent state, and filesystem.
- Each sandbox runs in a dedicated Firecracker microVM, so agents can use Docker and resume processes left running across sessions.
- TypeScript/Python SDKs and CLI cover the full lifecycle: set a max lifetime, upload files and download artifacts, exec commands with streamed output, and fork new sandboxes from snapshots (running processes included).
- Use cases: equip agents with tools/files, spin up a full copy of your app with Docker Compose for end-to-end testing, and safely execute untrusted code.
- Docs show a complete example: create sandbox → upload task JSON → run python agent.py && pytest → capture snapshot → terminate.
