MetaMask launches Agent Wallet with onchain guardrails for AI agent spending

MetaMask released Agent Wallet, a command-line wallet for AI agents, arguing that liability for agentic payments is a design problem before it's a legal one: stop agents from spending outside human-set bounds in the first place.
Key details:
- Self-custodial: you hold the keys, no exchange in the middle;
- Rules set at setup — daily spend caps, allowlisted protocols/networks/addresses, risk profile — enforced onchain rather than by a single intermediary;
- Default Guard Mode: rolling 24h outflow cap plus allowlists, with 2FA on anything outside policy; Beast Mode for power users allows any protocol but still blocks malicious transactions;
- Every transaction is simulated, scanned and MEV-protected; works with OpenClaw, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other frameworks.
The quoted discussion highlights the unresolved liability gap: if a hallucinating agent overspends by $500, tradfi regulations protect consumers but agentic-payment terms leave buyers on the hook — spend-policy frameworks will be key to defining intent and liability.
