A viral thought experiment: the mirror that predicts one second ahead — and the universes nesting inside it
tallmetommy · x · 2026-11-05
A sci-fi thought experiment: imagine a mirror showing you one second into the future, and you resolve to do the opposite. To predict you, it must simulate a copy of you with all your memories — and that copy, facing its own mirror, spawns another world, recursively.
Inside one nested layer, someone walks out, marries, has a daughter; her descendants build civilizations, discover galaxies, and eventually construct their own one-second-predicting machine — restarting the loop.
The thread ends on the idea that every light in the sky may belong to a world inside an unfinished attempt to answer one question — a meditation on prediction, free will, and nested simulation.
