Zig zero-dependency rewrite of Tempo beats Rust version with 10x less code, 7x faster builds
jaivin · x · 2026-11-05
Paradigm's gakonst announced a zero-dependency Zig rebuild of Tempo that outperforms the original Rust implementation and tracks mainnet. Inspired by TigerBeetle and using DST, it has roughly 10x less code and 7x faster build times, though it's very alpha. The retweet quotes jarredsumner's prediction that the era of dependencies is over: a single Brotli vulnerability hit .NET, Node, Bun and Envoy alike, and when rewriting a dependency is one prompt away, taking on the risk no longer makes sense.
