One table to tell InstaBox, boxd and Entire apart: three layers of the agentic stack
ChrisUniverse · x · 2026-11-05
ChrisUniverse shared a Core Architectural Matrix comparing InstaBox, boxd, and Entire — three tools that occupy different layers of an agentic engineering stack:
- InstaBox: Firecracker microVM execution sandboxes. 4 vCPU/8 GiB, auto-recycled in 5–30 min, ships desktop GUI, Chromium and a native Android 14 container; upload capped 50 Mbit/s; free tier or $20–500/mo.
- boxd: persistent Linux microVM cloud computers. 2 vCPU/8 GiB/100 GiB, hibernates after 4h idle with processes intact; killer feature is <200ms live memory/process forking and in-place checkpoints, self-hostable; usage-based with €30 credit.
- Entire: version control / provenance layer built on Git + agent memory. Replaces PRs with Trails that link code lines back to agent prompts; distributed Git network claims up to 89x faster pushes than GitHub; repo/team tiers plus open-source CLI.
Bottom line: not competitors — three stack layers: ephemeral execution, persistent compute, and provenance/memory.
