Developer says Claude and Codex nearly bankrupted him by making procrastination comfortable
oran_ge · x · 2026-11-05
A developer's confession (amplified by Randall Kanna) about a hidden trap of AI coding tools: with Claude/Codex there is always a next thing to build, every session feels productive, and you never have to show anyone—which becomes the perfect excuse to avoid the real problem, validating the product with actual users.
Months of AI subscriptions later, the app was more polished but he still had no idea if anyone wanted it; he even scrolled his phone while agents ran instead of researching competitors or finding users. Forcing himself to send cold emails—far less comfortable than delegating to Claude—actually brought in users, giving him a reason to keep doing the thing he'd been avoiding. The insight: people will do anything to avoid their real problem, and AI makes that avoidance remarkably comfortable.
