Hamel Husain: AI benchmark marketing is disingenuous and deserves scrutiny
HamelHusain · x · 2026-11-05
Eval expert Hamel Husain argued that many model benchmarks are marketed disingenuously and out of line with reality, and that big claims of model superiority such as an "intelligence index" should invite scrutiny.
Responding to the idea that critics should go build better benchmarks instead, he said pointing out flaws shouldn't be punished: flaws should first be reported constructively to well-intentioned benchmark creators, and name-and-shame reserved for those who refuse to fix them.
