Building a personal MCP book pipeline: discover, download, auto-translate to Kindle
vista8 · x · 2026-11-04
Xiao Yang Qiaomu (vista8) shares his personal reading workflow:
- Discovery: find books via Hacker Bookshelf (aggregating the most-mentioned books in HN comments) and Readwise's AI RSS channel;
- Downloading: run a self-built MCP through Zcode to fetch ebooks, since codex and Claude Code sometimes refuse direct downloads; can be built with zlib + telethon;
- Reading: one-click side-by-side translation, then send to Kindle.
He used it to read sci-fi novel The Diamond Age and grab Tiago Forte's new book (free English epub via newsletter subscription).
