Linear fixed 1,000+ defects in 2 years with 'Quality Wednesdays' — and never ran an A/B test
petesena · x · 2026-11-04
Linear raised $82M at a $1.25B valuation in June 2025, and its CEO says the product was built without a single A/B test. @petesena breaks down the weekly ritual behind its quality bar, "Quality Wednesdays":
- Origin: started by CTO Tuomas Artman after an offsite in early 2023 — each engineer must find and fix one defect that degrades overall quality.
- Rules: fixes should take 30 minutes or less, none over an hour; presented at the Wednesday team meeting.
- Philosophy: "We needed quality to be a habit, like brushing your teeth."
- Result: 1,000+ fixes logged under a quality label in two years, per Linear's own count.
