CrowdStrike's $495M Fiddler and Dreadnode buys: observability isn't a security verdict
docdavkitty · reddit · 2026-11-05
CrowdStrike announced two acquisitions on November 3: Fiddler AI for agent observability (planned as Falcon Observe) and Dreadnode for automated attack testing, reportedly for roughly $495M combined, terms undisclosed.
The author argues the interesting part isn't the price but that the two products answer different questions, and announcements conflate them:
- Observability tells you what an agent did — which tool calls fired, with what inputs. It doesn't tell you whether the action was correct, or whether traces captured enough context to reconstruct the decision.
- Testing shows which attack paths worked in a lab, not your real-world success rate against deployment.
Neither closes the runtime gap: the kill switch today only stops gateway-mediated activity; endpoint termination is still forthcoming — a distinction that matters if your agent has a shell.
For anyone running agents in production, ask which tool calls are actually instrumented, what gets retained, and whether a test finding becomes enforced policy or just a recommendation.
